Fourth Annual Mentoring-in-Motion at Brownstone June 18

Portland, Conn. – Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park is hosting the 4th Annual Mentoring-in-Motion Event June 18, kicking off summer and benefiting all of the states authorized one on one mentoring programs. Zip lining, cliff jumping, wakeboarding, kayaking – what better way to start summer and help out the local community.

First Ever “Mascot Off”
For the first time ever, come see the Brownstone “Mascot Off”. Meet Rocky from the Rock Cats, Pucky and Sonar from the Conn. Whale, and Colonial Tom from the Colonials. Cheer them on and root for your favorite mascot as they go through a special Brownstone Mascot Survivor Challenge.

The day also includes a special appearance by WFSB Meteorologist Curtis Grevenitz. Platinum sponsor Coca Cola is donating drinks, Courtside Café of Middletown is donating food to mentors and their sponsored kids. Scuba Shack is donating lessons to mentors and their sponsored kids. Gold sponsors include Prime Climb and Stone Age Rock Gym.

Brownstone Donates 50 percent of the Days Gate Fees
“On June 19, our goal is to welcome as many guests as possible to the park” says Sean Hayes, general manager of Brownstone. “The more guests that enjoy a day of ziplining, cliff jumping, wake boarding, rock climbing and all the other fun activities Brownstone offers, the more we raise to help Connecticut children’s mentoring programs.” Last year Brownstone Park raised more than $31,000 benefiting organizations including Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, True Colors, the thirteen DCF one-on-one mentoring partners across the state and the Governor’s Prevention Partnerships which include 160 programs statewide. Brownstone gates open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Special Father’s Day Package
Spend Father’s Day weekend at Brownstone. Start with the Friday night movie on the beach followed by two days of fun and adventure all for the special price of $45, regularly priced at $61. Only want to spend Sunday? No problem, the park welcomes all Dads on Father’s Day. Brownstone encourages all to visit remembering that each visitor to the park on Saturday makes a difference in a child’s life with half of all gate fees donated to the mentoring programs.

Mentors and their Sponsored Child Play for Free
In addition to donating 50 percent of the gate fees on Saturday or June 18, Brownstone is also extending free admission to participating mentors and their sponsored child along with free scuba diving, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkeling or wakeboarding lessons.

How the Programs Help
These funds make it possible for many disadvantaged kids to be matched with caring and inspirational adult mentors. These mentors help children realize their potential, build strong futures and create strong communities. None of that is possible without the ongoing support of businesses and the community.
