Brownstone Park raises $5,200 for mentoring programs

PORTLAND, Conn. – Brownstone Park hosted their 3rd Annual Mentoring-in-Motion Event on June 19-20 to kick off summer and benefit all of the states authorized one on one mentoring programs.

By donating 50% of the weekend’s gate fees to the charities, Brownstone raised over $5200 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, DCF and True Colors. Participating mentors and their sponsored children attended for free and received free scuba diving, rock climbing, kayaking, snorkeling or wakeboarding lessons.

The event featured cliff jumping, wakeboarding, and 4 different zip lines as well as live music from local bands such as For a Cure, Something to Go By, Prizm, Rusted Sliver, and Zayne Couch Explosion.

“This is the third year that Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park has been kind enough to host us,” said Laura Green, President and CEO of Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters. “We are extremely grateful for their continued generosity. Brownstone’s donations will make it possible for many disadvantaged kids to be matched with a caring and inspirational adult mentor. We applaud Brownstone’s passion for bettering conditions for children and families living in surrounding communities.”

“Brownstone Exploration & Discovery Park is committed to teaching outdoor adventure skills to kids and adults”, said Sean Hayes, General Manager of Brownstone Park Hayes continued, “Outdoor adventure sports develop lasting bonds between participants, confidence and a sense of discovery, while instilling a love of the great outdoors, passion for the environment and physical activity —  lifelong obsessions that Brownstone is proud to promote through great organizations such as Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters and True Colors”.
